Sherilyn joined UC Berkeley’s Comparative Literature department in 2014. She has a B.A. in Comparative Literature and Society from Columbia University and an M.Phil. in European and Comparative Literatures and Cultures from the University of Cambridge. At Berkeley, she focuses on modern and contemporary Danish, French, and German literature, film, and critical theory. Her dissertation, “Grammatical Claustrophobia: Despair and the Architecture of Entrapment” examines the figuration of gender and reception in a selection of woman-authored works of literature and film from the 1960s and 70s. Some of her other research interests include: affect theory, ecocriticism, expressionism/naturalism, visual art, ghosts, and tiny objects. Outside of her academic research, Sherilyn translates contemporary Danish literature into English, most recently Johanne Bille's ELASTIC (Lolli Editions 2019) and Jonas Eika's AFTER THE SUN (forthcoming, Riverhead Books 2021).
