Research Areas

Socialist realism, postwar German and Polish cultural history, and cultural memory about and around the 1989 collapse of communism. Allegory, theories of historical time, and the intersections of literature and historiography.


Thom joined the department in 2015 with a BA in Comparative Literature from CUNY Hunter College. He is a member of the Program in Critical Theory, affiliated with the Institute for Slavic, East-European, and Eurasian Studies, and a co-organizer of the 'Kroužek' Working Group for the Culture and History of East Central Europe.
