Madeleine Cohen is a PhD Candidate in Comparative Literature. Her research focuses on Yiddish modernist literature in the early 20th century with comparative work in German, Hebrew and Polish language literatures.  She is interested in ideas of minor literature as a subversive force against the status quo, be it cultural, religious, gendered, or political. She is also interested in translation theory and practice.
Madeleine teaches beginning Yiddish language for the German Department as well as Reading & Composition courses in Comparative Literature on her other great literary love: science fiction, including “Social Politics of Science Fiction” and “Alternate Histories and Political Imagination.”
