The UC Berkeley Department of Comparative Literature is a vibrant place for the study of literatures and cultures in an interdisciplinary framework, from a transnational and cross-cultural perspective. The department offers innovative, interdisciplinary programs leading to a minor or a B.A. in Comparative Literature, and a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature. The department trains students to think critically and analytically about writing, translation, and many other cultural forms. Students and faculty develop new historical and theoretical frameworks, and rethink those we have inherited, to open new perspectives on literature, art, and global cultures.
